SAS Names Carl Farrell to Head Americas Sales
SAS, the leader in business intelligence, has appointed Carl Farrell Senior Vice President, Americas. Most recently President of SAS Canada and SAS Americas Subsidiaries, Farrell will be responsible for sales in the US as well as all SAS operations in Canada and Latin America. Farrell will report to CEO Jim Goodnight, who will continue to be closely involved with SAS sales.
“Under Carl’s leadership, SAS has had remarkable growth in both Canada and Latin America,” Goodnight said. “I am confident he will set the bar high for accelerating growth in the Americas.”
Farrell is known for his hands-on, direct approach to managing sales operations, and for his open management style. His primary focus in the new role will be identifying growth
“The US market opportunity is huge right now,” Farrell said. “With the turmoil in the economy, smart companies who hope to succeed and grow are looking for the advanced analytics to help them rise above their competitors. SAS has delivered proven analytic offerings to customers for more than 30 years."
Farrell joined SAS in 2002 to lead the company’s Canadian operations. During his six-year tenure, the region’s revenue grew more than 96 percent while achieving sustainable profitability, making Canada one of SAS’ five top-performing subsidiaries.
In 2005 Farrell took responsibility for Latin American operations and grew revenues by 91 percent. Last year the combined Canada/Latin America business unit was the fastest growing division in SAS.
As head of US Sales, Farrell will be responsible for driving sales growth in the US market, guiding sales strategy and operations, building and maintaining strong customer relationships, and integrating with other customer-facing SAS business units such as marketing and professional services.
As head of Canada and Latin America operations, Farrell directs all other business functions within the subsidiaries, including professional services, finance, marketing, human resources and operations.
Farrell also oversaw construction of SAS Canada’s new headquarters, Toronto’s first commercial building registered with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program. He shares the view of the importance of work/life balance that has become a SAS hallmark.
Farrell has more than 20 years of experience in the software industry spanning product development, consulting and sales. He has previously held senior positions at Vignette Corporation, Idiom Technologies Inc., J.D. Edwards & Company and JBA Holdings.
