Nortel Appoints Michael Pangia as Global Sales Operations Leader

Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT] today announced the appointment of Michael Pangia as senior vice-president, Global Sales Operations and Strategy. In this newly created position, he will lead a global team to further drive customer focus across the company and develop new strategic approaches for profitable revenue generation. Pangia is currently president of Nortel's Asia Region and will remain in this position in the short term as a successor is named to lead this important region.

Prior to leading Nortel's sales organization in Asia, Pangia held senior level global roles in both finance and operations. He will combine his knowledge of important corporate functions and his hands on experience leading a key sales region to deliver solutions and execute strategies that drive real, measurable and tangible change in the way Nortel sells, goes to market and serves its global customer base.

Asia Momentum

Pangia will remain in Asia until the end of June and continue in the position of regional president to ensure a smooth transition and a continued focus on business results in the region. Work is underway to identify a leader that will continue the momentum set by the Asia team under his leadership.

In recent months, the Asia team has demonstrated increased customer traction and has expanded its position as a central part of the Nortel organization. Among other significant announcements, Nortel recently announced the elevation of the China Lab in Beijing and Guangzhou to be one of two Full Service R&D labs globally - and announced a GSM contract worth over $100 million with major operator BSNL in India.
