Sabre Holdings Deploys Comverse's Kenan(R) Data Mediation Solution

Comverse, a subsidiary of Comverse Technology, Inc. and the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communication and billing services, today announced that Sabre Holdings has deployed the Kenan(R) Data Mediation solution to support its business with flexible collection, mediation and billing support. Sabre is the largest travel services company in the U.S. The Sabre GDS (Global Distribution System) is a ready-built, efficient, electronic marketplace that connects suppliers, including hundreds of airlines and thousands of hotels with more than 50,000 travel agency locations.

"Given the market deregulation of the travel industry, a company of our breadth and reach needed a scalable, flexible and reliable data mediation solution to handle our various billing models and one that would minimize risk in our relationships with our many suppliers," said David Smith, Vice President, Corporate Systems Development and Delivery at Sabre Travel Network. "Equally important, we required a system that translates usage data into valuable marketing intelligence to use for strategic planning. By using Comverse's Kenan Data Mediation solution to cut costs and reduce revenue leakage, Sabre is better equipped to offer great deals to our customers, a critical edge in our extremely competitive market."

The Kenan Data Mediation solution supports business and service management needs by collecting and mediating vital usage, content and transaction data from any network. It then securely distributes the relevant data to various downstream applications, such as charging and billing, fraud detection and prevention, market intelligence and decision support. This reduces cross company exposure and billing errors, while providing business intelligence from usage data. With the utmost flexibility and scalability to support growth, Kenan Data Mediation is configurable to meet the specific needs of any environment. In the Sabre deployment, the Kenan Data Mediation performs error detection, data enrichment and record format conversions on reservation records before feeding multiple billing platforms and a data warehouse.

"Our Kenan Data Mediation solution answers the need for multiple billing business models, as the trend moves away from the constraints of a 'one size fits all' model," commented Ramesh Barasia, President of Comverse Americas. "We are very pleased to contribute to the efficiency of a service-oriented company as large as Sabre. Whether Sabre is dealing with travel agents, corporations, government agencies or its host of travel suppliers, each interaction can have its own terms for pricing and invoicing. This successful launch also demonstrates the good fit of the Comverse product portfolio, particularly convergent billing and customer care, with market segments outside the telecommunications industry."
