IDC Announces Top Ten Predictions for Applications Markets in 2006

According to a newly published IDC study, the major trends in the applications markets for 2006 will focus primarily on platform and technology change, as well as intermarket tactical convergence.

The study, which presents IDC's top ten predictions for applications markets in 2006, asserts that while the applications markets will continue to experience consolidation, 2006 should prove less stormy than 2005, with the major market movements involving mainly strategic market shifts plus a few basic atmospheric changes.

"At one level, the types of applications enterprises use in 2006 will not seem so different from those used in 1996 or even 1986," stated Mark Levitt, research vice president, Collaborative Computing, Composite Applications and the Enterprise Workplace.
