Company Pleases Clients by Offering Both Service and Software Solutions
Fatline Corporation's FastTracker, an Employee Internet Monitoring (EIM) tool, has put an end to the argument that either a managed service via the Internet or an installed software product is better than the other.
Beginning in June 2002, the company will begin offering its EIM tool as a software product that customers can install on their own servers behind their firewall. At the same time, the company will continue to offer the product as a managed service via the Internet, so customers will have a choice.
"Many technology and Internet products are either in the service camp or the software camp. At FastTracker, we've found that there are benefits and drawbacks to both.

"Many technology and Internet products are either in the service camp or the software camp. At FastTracker, we've found that there are benefits and drawbacks to both.
Besides, our customers wanted a choice, so we developed our service into a software product, while continuing to offer the service option. With either choice, our customers will still get an employee-friendly EIM tool that is reliable and easy-to-use, even for non-technical people," said Ed Gruidel, FastTracker CEO.
With the new software option, customers receive a high-performance piece of EIM software that an IT manager can easily install and manage behind his or her company's firewall. The Internet management information collected using the FastTracker software is updated and automatically downloaded daily.
Once the information is downloaded, HR or management can access the usage reports without having to ask the IT staff to manage or run the reports, freeing the IT department to focus on running the network.
With the software or the service option, FastTracker is built with two main engines: a traffic engine to perform categorization and blocking, and a reporting engine that compiles the daily usage patterns into easily accessible documents for management and human resources.
FastTracker categorizes and if necessary, blocks Web pages as employees request them. Once the information is categorized, authorized managers and employees connect to the reporting engine to gather and analyze usage. Managers can use any Web browser to access FastTracker's award-winning reports.
FastTracker was launched a year ago as the only EIM tool to give employees access to information about their own Internet surfing habits. At the time, FastTracker was only offered as a service, designed to work with a company's existing Internet Service Provider. The service works the same today.
