Bytemobile Appoints Telecom Industry Veteran Hugh Barton as Vice President and General Manager, North America
Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in mobile internet solutions for network operators, today announced the appointment of Hugh Barton as vice president and general manager, North America. Barton will be responsible for all of the company's sales activities and customer relationships in the United States and Canada.
According to Chetan Sharma Consulting, the U.S. wireless data market grew 37.5% year over year in the third quarter of 2008, reaching $8.8 billion in total revenue. Bytemobile's current customers in North America include leading network operators such as AT&T, Alltel and Sprint Nextel.
"With more than 260 million wireless subscribers in the U.S. alone, North America is a strategic geography for us," said Hatim Tyabji, executive chairman of Bytemobile.
Hugh Barton has over 20 years of management experience in sales, business development, marketing, strategic planning, and consulting. Before joining Bytemobile, he was vice president of North America Sales, Global Commercial Industries, at Unisys Corporation, where he was responsible for strategic accounts such as AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Cox, and Comcast. Previously, he held several management positions at Hewlett-Packard Company, including managing director, BT Alliance, responsible for HP's relationship with British Telecom.
Barton also served in the Information, Communications and Entertainment Practice at KPMG Consulting and the Communications Industry Group at Accenture. As a partner at Washington Equity Partners, he structured private equity transactions for wireless telecommunications companies in emerging markets. Barton holds a M.B.A. degree from the College of William & Mary and a B.A. degree in History from the University of Virginia, and is certified as a Chartered Director by the U.K. Institute of Directors.
