Unisys Helps Reuters Transform Global News Web Sites to Provide Next-Generation News Delivery
Unisys Corporation has worked with news and information leader Reuters to help upgrade the underlying platform for Reuters.com and transform its global news websites to provide next-generation capabilities and news delivery.
The enhanced Web sites have yielded major improvements in performance by reducing U.S. page load times by 75 percent and allowing advertisers on Reuters.com and Reuters mobile sites to more effectively and creatively target their messages to the growing audience of Reuters global network of news and information sites.
Unisys provided architectural design and consulting services as the Reuters development team created Reuters new online platform, which will serve as the foundation for Reuters global websites.
Unisys assistance enabled the Reuters development team to use the widely adopted MySQL database and Apache Tomcat application server to manage information more effectively and accelerate response to visitors' information requests via the Java software environment chosen for the sites.
The services and support that Unisys provides Reuters are part of the Unisys Open and Secure Integrated Solutions (OASIS) framework, a certified set of open source software suites and services drawing on Unisys proficiency in enterprise solution deployment.
"Unisys helped us establish a stable, reliable Web environment that allows us to serve more visitors to our Web sites more quickly than ever before," said Reuters Media Executive Vice President of Technology Leon Shklar. "This new platform gives us a springboard to develop even more innovative news packaging and delivery, and it offers our advertisers a range of new and unique strategies to reach their target audiences."
Unisys helped Reuters determine the database clustering, replication, fail-over and fault tolerance capabilities required in the software environment, and also provided performance tuning on both the MySQL and Apache Tomcat systems.
In addition, Reuters has chosen Unisys to continue providing mission-critical 24x7 support for MySQL and Apache Tomcat.
"This initiative demonstrates that open source software is ready for the most stringent mission-critical applications," said Anthony Gold, vice president and general manager, Open Source Business, Unisys. "Reuters selection of Unisys as a services and support partner also shows confidence in the added value that Unisys provides in helping organizations advance their business and innovate for the future."
Solution Initiative to Be Featured at MySQL Conference April 24
Unisys and Reuters architects will present a case study on the Reuters implementation today, April 24, at the MySQL Conference. The presentation will be at 5:30 p.m. PDT in Ballroom H of the Santa Clara Convention Center.
