Mitel Live Business Gateway Brings Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Integration for Bermuda Telephone
The Bermuda Telephone Company Ltd. (BTC) has deployed the Mitel Live Business Gateway to deliver the productivity-enhancing benefits of unified communications to their employees.
Catherine Mason, vice president of customer service for BTC, said employees are raving about real time, in-the-moment communication with Live Business Gateway. "For our people, it is all about presence and communicating in real time. Using Mitel's Live Business Gateway, you can see each other's calendar, see if someone is on the phone or if they're out and when they are expected to return.
Live Business Gateway provides access to key business resources in the moment they are needed, resulting in faster decision making and issue resolution by integrating the Mitel 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP), legacy communications solutions, Microsoft(R) Live Communications Server 2005 and the Microsoft(R) Office Communicator 2005 integrated communications client.
The Live Business Gateway is a single network gateway to the Live Communications Sever 2005 and its associated desktop client - Communicator 2005. By enabling access to Mitel applications and the communication enhancing benefits of presence and availability, Live Business Gateway reduces network costs, enhances mobility, delivers competitive advantage, increases productivity and drives extended enterprise. Mitel extends presence and availability to several "Live Communications Server 2005-Enabled" applications including Mitel Mobile Extension, Mitel NuPoint Messenger(TM) IP and the Mitel Multimedia Contact Center.
"Mitel was first to market with integration through our Live Business Gateway, and we continue to have more advanced integration with Microsoft," said Mitel president and chief operating officer, Paul Butcher. "We will continue to take advantage of our 'quick-to-market' capabilities to deliver enhanced functionality built upon Microsoft software infrastructure. This includes integration of presence capabilities across our applications portfolio and enhanced inter-working between Communicator 2005 and Mitel desk phones."
Some of the benefits of Live Business Gateway include:
Telephony Enablement and Multi-Party Conferencing
Communicator 2005 users can use the call feature to initiate calls from their Mitel desk phone to any other internal or external telephone number. Users also have the ability to set up an ad-hoc eight-party audio conference call, via the internal conference bridge within the Mitel Applications and Services Gateway. Participants are simply added from Communicator 2005.
Presence and Availability
Communicator 2005 users are able to see an indication of the status of other users on the network, including their telephony status. If a colleague is busy on a call, they can be "tagged," meaning that when the call is completed, a notification is provided to indicate their availability.
Extension of Mitel Applications
The Live Business Gateway extends Mitel's rich telephony applications suite to the Live Communications Server 2005 users leveraging presence and availability from the Communicator 2005 interface.
Integration with Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite
Missed calls are flagged in the user's Microsoft Outlook inbox. A user's status can be seen within Outlook or the Microsoft Office suite. Calls can be established directly from these applications via a mouse click.
Through the provision of advanced Mitel telephony applications to the Live Communications Server 2005, the Mitel / Microsoft partnership enables better access to information and people, simply and easily, right from the desktop.
