Macrovision Advances Information Commerce with Next Generation eRights Suite
eMeta, a division of Macrovision® Corporation announced a new release of its eRights Suite offering that is designed to help businesses flexibly license and monetize their digital content and services.
Less than one month after being acquired by Macrovision Corporation, eMeta is delivering eRights Suite version 4.0, which includes a new solution, RightCare, as well as enhancements to its two market-leading products, RightAccess and RightCommerce. Together the three solutions help companies improve e-commerce operations, increase customer satisfaction and generate greater revenue.
"eMeta’s enhanced eRights Suite jumpstarts e-commerce solutions for publishers,” said Chuck Richard, VP and Lead Analyst with Outsell, Inc.
RightCare, Right Access and RightCommerce have been developed and enhanced to put more control in the hands of business users, helping them improve the way they sell their products and services online.
RightCare: New to eRights Suite, the RightCare solution helps administrators easily manage customer accounts. It was developed in partnership with customers and user-centered design experts to optimize efficiency, minimize the number of clicks when viewing information and guide users to complete their tasks. With RightCare, companies can now:
- Manage accounts with task-based controls;
- Preview account changes with a new preview pane before making the changes official, and
- Enable different staff within an organization (e.g., customer service, sales, marketing and end users) to create, view, edit and delete only data that is relevant to their specific job function and business unit.
RightCommerce: eRights Suite’s commerce application allows companies to implement pricing models, including pay-per-view, bundles and subscriptions. Users can target customers with free trials, discounts and gift subscriptions, while increasing support for add-on purchases with promotions and targeted pricing. Some of the new capabilities include:
- New discounting variables: Businesses can discount online products and services by customer type, geography, and other attributes;
- Advanced order management: Includes volume pricing and coupons, increasing distribution options for institutional content providers, and
- Partner sales management: Gives businesses the ability to implement special pricing among partner sites.
RightAccess: Improves the process by which consumers access a company’s online offerings by giving companies control over who accesses what digital product and in which manner the access is granted. The new features and functionalities include:
- Roaming Access: Allows users to gain access to their institutional or corporate subscription whether they’re on campus or at a remote site;
- Bookshelf Licenses: Give administrators greater flexibility and options when granting access to different users across a company or institution. For example, users can be granted access to any five resources such as book chapters, journals or newspaper articles; and one department can be given access to ten resources whereas another department is given access to three;
- Federated Authentication: The widely adopted Shibboleth is natively supported;
- User-Level Configurability: Administrators can now give users the ability to decide how long they need to view subscribed information. For example, a user who previously has access to information for 30 minutes can now directly configure a session to time-out after two hours, and
- Advanced Request Throttling: Helps administrators more effectively monitor site abuse by ensuring that one license is used by a single user. Administrators can now detect and shut down site abusers by viewing information such as the session, user, IP address and content type.
“When it comes to securing and selling digital goods and services, eRights Suite is unparalleled,” said Jonathan Lewin, vice president of information commerce at Macrovision. “Version 4.0 includes additional features and functionality that many users in our customers’ organizations will appreciate – from business development and marketing professionals to customer service and account representatives. eRights Suite 4.0 enables all aspects of a digital business.”
The versatility of eRights Suite 4.0 is augmented by the eRights Expression Language (eEL). The eEL increases eRights Suite’s flexibility by supporting additional business models and licensing strategies. For example, users can write business rules to restrict authentication while offering multiple pricing strategies for various digital products or services.
eRights Suite V4.0 is currently available both as an installed or hosted (ASP) solution and is compliant with industry standards.
